The challenge of SIP trunk solutions

The new Mediatrix eSBC series enable live communications at the edge of IP Networks. eSBC improves time-to-market and total cost of ownership

With the explosion in SIP trunk deployment, Service Providers (SPs) face a variety of issues:

Interoperability: Between IMS /Softswitches and IP-PBX and IP-Phones.

Security : SP needs to assure security leaks at enterprise network will not jeopardize IMS availability.

NAT: SP needs to reach enterprise’s end users behind private networks without requiring modifications on Routers or Firewalls rules.

Quality of Service: SP can guarantee voice quality to enterprises regardless of bandwidth conditions or network traffic.

Troubleshooting: SP needs to rapidly identify whether issues blocking deployment occur within or outside customer’s network, collect data and resolve the issues.

Mediatrix 500eSBC creates a virtual frontier to manage IP traffic between Service Provider and Enterprise networks. This point of demarcation protects /enforces Security & Privacy rules for both networks without the need of configuration changes. 500eSBC’s SIP Header manipulation eases SIP Trunk deployments when connecting customer’s IP-PBXs by flexibly adapting various SIP implementations with any IMS or SIP Server.

With Survival SIP Demarcation, Mediatrix eSBC includes 2FXS + 1FXO analog ports, local SIP Server, Far-End-NAT-Traversal to integrate remote SIP users and TLS encryption to secure communications through IP Public Network.2012_Newsletter_02_-Avanzada 7

Interoperability

Mediatrix eSBC rewrites SIP headers accordingly to different SIP vendors requirements for seamless integration. Provides SIP Protocol error checking and fixes Protocol non-conformances. It also separates the call between the enterprise and the Service Provider, integrating two different implementations of SIP

Security

Mediatrix eSBC executes deep packet inspection of the SIP Signaling to protect Service Providers and Enterprises from different attacks including:

  • Intrusion of Services: external devices trying to register like an IPBX extension
  • Toll Fraud: unauthorized attempts to access the SIP Trunk and place calls
  • Denial of Service: external flood trying to disrupt or slow services

Mediatrix eSBC also offers TLS support for encrypted communications to avoid traffic snooping through the public network.

Network Address Translation

Mediatrix eSBC modifies IP Addresses and Port allocation in SIP Protocol from Private LAN addresses to Public WAN address. It monitors all SIP Traffic IN and OUT and can apply routing & mapping rules. It also allows remote users connecting to enterprise’s IPBX without additional configuration.

Troubleshooting

Debug messages include detailed information useful for error tracing. Logs can be queried on the Web GUI, transferred to a Syslog Server or saved into an external file. Mediatrix eSBC provides:

  • System Logs: generic events that have occurred to the unit
  • Firewall Logs: information about packets received and sent by the unit
  • SIP Logs: SIP and telephony related events
  • Call Logs: information about SIP calls made through the unit.

Management

Mediatrix eSBC offers embedded On-Line Help and an user manual accessible via Web GUI. Configuration Wizard can be customized for Service Providers to optimize provisioning time.

TR069 & Proprietary Provisioning System are available for massive deployment.
